The group meets monthly on the 2nd Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Caffe Pergolesi, 418 Cedar St., Santa Cruz, to discuss Financial Planning and the pros and cons of specific financial strategies, options, investments, risk management and financial and protection products. Each session is open to any member who would like to present to the group, but the leader will be prepared to present on the specified topics. 

General session format:

Sessions lasting 90 mins – 2 hrs including presentation and group discussion including members’ shared knowledge, experience and opinions of the session topic. Basic tax strategies will be discussed for most topics*. The goal is a frank exchange of views and a shared base of knowledge.

Each session will focus on a predetermined topic. This will allow us to delve into the details of some of the more complex financial issues. The group may determine that some topics justify multiple sessions.

Other Planned topics include:

  • Estate planning – Estate taxes. Leaving a legacy, wills, trusts, power of attorney, health care directive.
  • Making your money last your lifetime – Achieving a successful retirement
  • Potential effects of diminished capacity – LTC costs and risk management options
  • Gifting – Charitable giving & gifting to children/grandchildren
  • Tax diversification – The tax control triangle, Roth IRA, Municipal Bonds, & CVLI
  • Investment strategies — Risk vs. reward, diversification, asset allocation, dollar cost averaging, etc.
  • Personal Finance Basics: Retirement planning, risk management, wealth accumulation & distribution
  • Fixed income – Bonds, annuities, pensions ; Discussing options and strategies
  • Advisors & Resources
  • Additional topics open to suggestion.
