OLLI Colleges Nine and John R. Lewis College Events

OLLI is fortunate to have a warm relationship with Colleges Nine and John R. Lewis College.  Not only do we meet monthly on campus in the colleges’ lovely Multipurpose Room (MPR), but we’ve been invited to participate in wonderful programs sponsored by the colleges.  Examples are the Alternative Spring Break with undergrads in Watsonville and the annual Practical Activism Conference sponsored by the CoCurricular Program (CoCo).  There are many others.

The Coronavirus, of course, has interrupted many of these activities, but we will be back, looking forward to the rich intergenerational exchanges we have always enjoyed with the students, staff and faculty of Colleges Nine and John R. Lewis College.

What is Alternative Spring Break?

One of the fruits of OLLI’s collaboration with UCSC’s Colleges Nine and John R. Lewis College has been OLLI participation in the student led Alternative Spring Break.  This is an opportunity for OLLI members and students  to work together in a Service Learning project in Watsonville.  Due to the COVID shutdown, Alternative Spring Break did not occur in 2020.  However, the 2019 ASB was documented by student videographers.  The video gives a clear idea of what the ASB is about.

Once the virus shutdowns are over, we are looking forward to rejoining this project."
